In the past weeks, we have been organizing a series of calls with digital volunteers in the RCRC to understand how to better engage with them and keep them motivated.
We can use this forum to share our experiences with digital volunteers… and post what kind of activities they are doing at your National Society. Recently, the digital volunteers from 510 helped us in the revision of this online training: Data for Volunteers. Thanks to them, we were able to make great improvements in the course.

Hello and good day to everyone here,
First is to wish you good health and safety wherever you may be.
Good job on allowing volunteers to join in on the data training. Their partaking does a great deal to keep them motivated. I would like to broaden the topic- to consider how effective inclusion and participation ( as motivators) is in volunteer work. With most of our NS’s having no structures of protection ( affordable care packages, insurance, subsidies and remuneration) for their volunteers, in most instances they are left out or minimally involved NS governance and decision making. This is from my experience as a Kenya RC volunteer.

I like the caption “Digital volunteers” COVID-19 has shown us that we have to utilize technology more as well as continue to be creative because using the same technology will get monotonous too!
At the same time there are many volunteers with technology so we should not forget to engage them.
One way to keep the digital volunteers motivated and informed might be to have occasional treats – maybe highlight a volunteer who participates consistently in activites.

Thanks, Samantha. that is a very good point that you have mentioned to promote volunteer’s participation by giving them occasional incentives. Definitely this is a good idea and we will put it into practice. Also, we are thinking that in this platform we can create badges for volunteers that participate the most and give relevant contributions.
